WID Number (Workers’ Identification Number)

The unique identifier the Minnesota DLI assigns to an injured worker’s claim file, used instead of a Social Security number on workers’ comp filings and in Work Comp Campus.

The WID number is your claim’s ID badge. When a First Report of Injury is filed, the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry assigns the worker a unique identification number, and that number (not your Social Security number) is what appears on filings, notices, and correspondence in the state system.

You will need it constantly once anything is disputed: it is how you (or your attorney, or the ombudsman) look up your file in Work Comp Campus, DLI’s online claim portal, and it is the number DLI staff ask for when you call. It typically appears on state-generated documents about your claim, and you can register in Campus to see your file directly.

If you cannot find your WID, call DLI’s helpline and they can locate it from your identifying information. Keep it with your claim records, alongside your injury date, adjuster contact, and claim number from the insurer, which is a separate number serving the same role on the insurance side.
