About MN Comp Buddy

MN Comp Buddy is an educational tool site created by Minnesota workers' compensation attorney Daniel C. Swenson, who practices at Robert Wilson & Associates. It is not the firm's primary website. The site contains attorney advertising where indicated, and using its tools does not establish an attorney-client relationship. The calculators run the statutory formulas for your wage rate, weekly benefits, permanency, deadlines, attorney fees, and offsets. Each one shows its work and cites the rule. There are also guides to the rules and a directory of Qualified Rehabilitation Consultants (QRCs).

Who is behind it

My name is Dan Swenson. I practice workers' compensation at Robert Wilson & Associates. I built this site because public information should not be hard to use. If you have a question about your claim, call or text me at (651) 283-8747. I will talk it through even if you are not ready to hire anyone.

When you need formal representation, start at wilsoninjurylaw.com. This tool site stays free either way. Nothing you enter in the calculators is shared with the firm unless you choose to reach out. For neutral state help, the DLI Workers' Compensation Ombudsman is another option.

Why this site exists

Most injured workers are new to this system, and it is hard to tell whether the insurer's math is right. I would rather hand you the answer than have you guess. Check your benefits with the calculators, read the guides, and look up a QRC when you need one. If your claim is on track, you may not need a lawyer at all. If it is going sideways, you will know why and what to ask.

What this site is

  • Tools: Free calculators that run Minn. Stat. ch. 176 and the DLI rate-table math right in your browser, showing the formula and source. No login, and nothing you enter into the calculators is sent to us.
  • Education:The education pages summarize Minnesota workers' compensation rules and cite the controlling authorities when possible.
  • A directory: QRC and vendor information is compiled from published lists and may be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm directly with the person or firm before relying on it.
  • Attorney advertising:This site is built and maintained by Daniel C. Swenson, a Minnesota workers' compensation attorney at Robert Wilson & Associates. The tools are general information, not legal advice about your case, and using them does not create an attorney-client relationship until you hire the firm.

Updates and accuracy

The rate tables are updated when the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry publishes new figures, and every calculator page shows the date its law was last verified. The directory is built from published lists, and it can drift as phone numbers and emails change. If you spot an error, please reach out so we can fix it.
