What to look for in a QRC

A Qualified Rehabilitation Consultant (QRC) is supposed to help you get back to work. They're assigned to your claim, but you have the right to choose your own. Here are questions to ask:

  • "Do you work for the insurance company or for me?"
  • "How often will we meet, and how will you keep me updated?"
  • "Will you help me find work that fits my restrictions, or just push me back to my old job?"
  • "Can you explain my rights under Minnesota law?"
  • "What happens if I disagree with the insurer's plan?"

Red flags to watch for

Not all QRCs work in your best interest. Watch out for these warning signs:

  • They only talk to the insurance adjuster, not you
  • They push you to go back to work before your doctor says you're ready
  • They never meet with you or respond to your calls
  • They minimize your injury or side with the employer
  • They don't explain what they're doing or why

You can change your QRC. Minnesota law gives you the right to pick your own consultant.
